PowerX, a Japan-Born Energy Disruptor Drawing Silicon Valley Attention by Fusing Hardware and Software

PowerX, a Japan-born energy startup headquartered in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, has been quietly drawing attention from Silicon Valley insiders as "a serious deep-tech player that hasn't emerged in a long time." Its founder is Masahiro Ito, who launched his first company at 17 and made his name at ZOZO. With outside directors hailing from Tesla, Northvolt, and Google, its vertically integrated model — spanning stationary storage batteries, ultra-fast EV chargers, electricity-transport vessels, and BESS for AI data centers — is starting to be described by U.S. climate-focused VCs as "a Japanese version of Energy Vault + Tesla Megapack + Northvolt." Following its listing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth Market in December 2025, the share price rose from the IPO price of ¥1,220 to nearly ¥8,000 at one point. At the same time, the company carries two unfinished assignments: dependence on Chinese-made cells and chronic operating losses. ---
